Tilburg Career Days

The Tilburg Career Days is an initiative organized by Tilburg students for Tilburg students. The goal is to bridge the gap between student life and the job market. We spoke with the organization of the Tilburg Career Days about the event. Below you can read everything you need to know about it!

HOW DID TILBURG CAREER DAYS ORIGINATE?

The Tilburg Career Days were created 34 years ago to narrow the gap between the job market and today's students, that are about to enter the working life. The goal of the event is to make it more accessible and easier to obtain an entry-level job.

In the early years, only a few companies participate. For a long time, the event remained somewhat smaller in scale. Ten years ago, there was an upward trend in companies and participants. The organization admits that this is largely due to the growth of the university. On the other hand, they think that students are more motivated than ever before to participate in these events.

In 2019, there were 50 companies and 620 participants. Now they are already at 63 companies and aiming to reach 800 participants. "There are many companies willing to participate, they are looking for new talent and you notice that in the companies you bring in."

WHAT DO STUDENTS GAIN FROM THE TILBURG CAREER DAYS?

Studying is very important, but eventually, you have to make the step to working life. The Tilburg Career Days is the event that reduces that step. You come in contact with many fun and interesting companies. "If you know what you think are nice companies, where you want to work or do an internship, later on, then you can register for that."

Even if you don't go to work right away, you can participate to already have a "connection" at a company. Then if you want to go to work, you can fall back on that.

So it's not just for master's students, but also for bachelor's students. After all, companies come not only for entry-level positions but also for internships or work-study positions. If you are looking for an internship, for example, you can find it at the Tilburg Career Days.

WHAT ARE YOU, AS THE TILBURG CAREER DAYS, AIMING FOR IN A NUMBER OF YEARS?

"The ambition is to grow as an event." The organization hopes that even more students will get a full-time job or work-student job through the event. They also want to organize other activities, such as beer tastings, golf clinics, and dinners. In this way, they want to reduce the step between the student and the company even more, especially in terms of informality.
