Wednesday's walking 2.0

A few weeks ago we introduced you to 'Walking Wednesday'. Here you were introduced to three beautiful walking routes in Tilburg. Today it is time again to introduce a few new walks to you. No blisters on your feet yet and ready for some new input for Wednesday's walking?

The 'Wandelbos'

Officially the Wandelbos is not a forest, but it is a nice place to go. It is a city park in Tilburg-West, between het Zand and the Reeshof. Would you like to go for a romantic evening walk with your boyfriend or girlfriend? Then this is a tip. The forest has a fairytale atmosphere. It was designed in 1917 by landscape architect Leonard Springer. He also designed the Wilhelmina Park and the Leijpark. In the forest you'll find a wide range of flowers and plants, even giant sequoia and marsh plants that you normally only find in North America. One of the most beautiful spots of the park is the bridge over the large pond. There is also a free petting zoo and a playground. Would you like to walk even more? Then you can combine this forest with the nearby Oude Warande.

Abbey Koningshoeven

On this website you can find a lot of walks. Would you like to take a walk on the outskirts of Tilburg and discover a new place? Then this is a good choice. At the end of the walk you will pass the Abbey de Koningshoeven. Here the La Trappe beer is brewed. This is a typical Dutch Trappist beer. During the walk you'll also pass the Abbey of Onze lieve Vrouw of the Koningshoeven. This is a monastery that is still used by monks. Besides the fact that it has an interesting story to tell, it is also very beautiful. This place has a rich history. At the moment the hospitality is close to the Koningshoeven, but you should take a terrace here. You can go there for a good lunch, delicious beers and delicious drinks. The route is almost 7 kilometers. Do you think this is too far? Grab your bike and turn around an extra block.

Walking tour architecture

Want to find out more about the city and see special buildings? Then this is the ideal walking route for you. You start on the Bredaseweg. First of all you pass the Water Tower. This tower has been standing here since 1897 and is no less than 50.50 metres high. During the Second World War the tower was used as a watchtower. Another impressive building is of course the Koning Willem II Stadium, this is the home base of the football club Willem II. The stadium seats no less than 14500 spectators. Other beautiful places to visit are; the Kromhout Barracks, Korvelse Kerk, Commemorative needle King Willem II, Noordhoekkerk and the Odulpuslyceum. The hike is 7.42 kilometers and you walk on paved roads. Did you take out the rollerblades during the corona crisis? Then you can also skate this walk! The complete route can be found here.

So well, put on the right shoes, put on some sunscreen and go with that banana. Get some fresh air in the morning or enjoy the sun that shines on your head during the afternoon. Discover even more of Tilburg through these fun walks. Have fun!
