Being a student course 5.0

Several blogs have already been written about life as a student in Tilburg. We started by explaining beer parties in Brabant, to fun drinking games and typical student words. But this glossary contains almost as many words as the thickest vocabulary and that's why this week we'll give you some small insides so you know what students mean. Often students start using a word as a joke, but before you know it, your friends and roommates will start using it as well. And then suddenly it gets stuck in the language.

Anytimer

An Anytimer is a game that is played in many student houses. Students challenge each other to do something against each other. Think for example of a game of FIFA on the PlayStation or who throws the highest dice. The winner can then let the loser have a beer at any time of the day. The loser may even be woken up for this! So, if someone asks you if you want to compete for 'anytimer', keep your fingers crossed that you win!

Dies

Dies means the anniversary of the university, association, year club, fraternity. In full is it dies Natalis, this means birthday. This is usually celebrated with a festive activity that many people would like to attend. Every five years there is also a lustrum. This is even more celebrated, often several days in a row.

Eventuela, prela and rela

Students get to know a lot of new people in the city, at the uni, at drinks or parties. Of course, it sometimes happens that there's a spark between two people. There are different names that you can call someone if you like them. An 'eventuela' is someone who has potential. A person you might want to have a relationship with. A 'prela' is the abbreviation for a pre-relationship. You don't have a relationship with each other yet, but you're in the pre stage. Often you have already agreed to be 'exclusive'. This means that you no longer look after other men or women. A 'rela' is an official relationship.

Soggen (sebbing)

Most students can be found at the library or behind their desks in their room during the exam period. But there are always a few who are not busy studying. This is an abbreviation for; Study Evasive Behavior (SEB).
