TextielMuseum

Tilburg is known for the Schrobbeler, the big fair and Willem 2. But there is much more. Today Tilburg is a modern and international city. A good mix for entrepreneurs, students, hipsters, famous soccer players, yuppen and so on. This mix stems from the rich industrial past. The city blossomed early on because of the wool industry. It is for a reason that Tilburg is called Textile City. You can still see this today, for example at De Spoorzone or De Pont. These are particularly beautiful parts of Tilburg that contain a lot of history.

It is therefore highly recommended to visit these places. That is why this week we will be highlighting the Textile Museum for you. The Textile Museum and the Textile Lab are located in an old textile factory. This was built in the 1960s by the woolen fabric manufacturer Christiaan Mommers. However, the terrain looked different. Over the years several new buildings have been built. In one of the newest buildings, you will find the café, the shop and the panoramic roof. In the historical part, you will find the damask collection, the laundry, and several exhibitions. In the former spinning mill part is now the wool blanket factory. Here you can see how blankets are made. Besides working with wool, there are also spinning and weaving machines. The Textile Museum is very unique, it is the only place in the world where design, art, fashion, heritage, and innovation in the field of textiles come together. Would you like to hear more about the history of this gem in Tilburg? Then book a guided tour.

During a guided tour you will find out what it was like to be a ‘kruikenzeiker’ (which is an old word for the textile worker) in a Textile factory in Tilburg. During this tour, you will watch over the shoulder of a textile artist who can tell you all the ins and outs. There are also several workshops, for example, a workshop woven stories, felting or molding. Do you prefer to stroll through the museum? There are also exhibitions that you can view in which current textile developments are highlighted.

The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday. It is located at 96 Goirkestraat. You do have to pay an entrance fee to be able to see everything. If you bring your school card from Fontys or Tilburg University, you only pay 3, -.
