The UB

Student in Tilburg welcomes prospective students in Tilburg. We are happy to lend a hand and will, therefore, provide you with some tips about student life here. A course on how to be a student never hurts, but come and discover for yourself!

Last week we discussed with you the 'biercantussen' that take place in Tilburg. This is a real Brabant student scene. Fortunately, there are a total of six 'biercantussen' spread throughout the year. So it never takes long before you can look forward to the next one. This week we will take you to the UB. Do you have any idea what this means?

Unfortunately, there's no beer here, no dancing on the tables, and no singing along loudly. Guess what? There's a lot of students studying here, borrowing books, and working on group assignments. The UB stands for Universiteits Bibliotheek or University Library. Students from Avans, Fontys, and the Uni meet here to study or work on projects. The University Library is located on the campus of the university. You can make use of many facilities. There are different kinds of workplaces. For example, on the ground floor, you have large tables with computers where you can sit and talk with a group. There are quiet rooms in the basement and on the first floor. Here you have study places at long tables and study places with partitions between the tables. If you have to study hard that is very nice! In addition, you also have many computer workstations. You may use these at any time. Do you want to make sure you have a place with a computer? You can reserve a computer via the website of the university. In the University Library, you can also use lockers and various printers. You do need a student card for this.

What does a student's day at the library look like?

Most students drop in in the morning, depending on what happened the night before. Usually, everyone starts with a cup of coffee in the CC. This stands for the coffee corner in the library. Some students stay inside and some students drink their coffee outside on the bridge. After that, it is time to get to work and everyone leaves for college or their workplace. Between twelve and one the students usually meet up for lunch in the Mensa. Here you can buy a nice lunch and you have plenty of space to take a break together. Usually, between three and four there is a small coffee break. Do you have a long day? Or do you have to study a lot for your exams? You can also go to the mensa for dinner. There are also microwaves available in the CC where you can heat up your own meal.

In short, at the University Library, there is hard work but there is also time for fun, a nice chat, or a coffee.

Regular opening hours:

  • Monday to Friday from 08:00 - 24:00 hours
  • Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 - 24:00 hours

Ps. The coronavirus has temporarily shut down the University Library. Keep an eye on the website for updates about when the library will reopen.
