Tilburg Funfair
We didn't dare to dream, but the Tilburg takes place anyway. Because of the coronavirus all major events are cancelled until September. But fortunately a solution has been found so that we can still visit the fair this summer.
Tilburg is known for the 'Tilburgse Kermis' or Tilburg fair. This is the largest fair in the Benelux. Every year there are between 230 and 240 attractions or rides from home and abroad spread throughout the city centre. Every year the fair attracts more than a million visitors. The Tilburg fair is therefore the best visited event in the Netherlands. The fair normally lasts for ten days and always ends on the last Sunday of July. Besides the fact that you can visit various attractions, there are also theme nights where famous artists perform. There are also many parties throughout the city organized by different entrepreneurs. In recent years, for example, The Roadshow took place in the Spoorzone. It looked like you were on holiday!
Unfortunately, this year the fair looks a bit different, but that doesn't make it any less fun. There is a special holiday fun fair organized on several squares in the center. From Friday 17 July to Sunday 26 July you can visit the attractions and rides. This year there is no kilometers long fairground, but everything is divided over four squares which are fenced. The four squares are Besterdplein, Paleisring, Stadshuisplein and Koningsplein. The fair opens every day at 13:00 or 15:00 and lasts until 21:00 or 23:00. So you can enjoy all the fun all day long.
Lucky us as students because the entrance is free. You can take a look at the fairgrounds without making an online reservation. There are hosts and hostesses to make sure the attractions don't get too crowded and that everyone keeps enough distance.
Various catering establishments also organise fun events during the week. Several terrace festivals are prepared for these festive ten days. However, the theme days, such as pink Monday, have been cancelled.
